River Tawe is One of the Most Sewage-Filled in the UK
The River Tawe was the tenth worst-hit river for sewage dumping last year with 2,592 sewage spills accounting for 22,776 hours worth of spills in the River.
Our latest win in less than a month saw Raif Devlin, a 27 year old retained firefighter, young farmer and surveyor become one of our youngest councillors in Powys.
The final results of the election in Talybont ward were 352 (52 per cent) for the Lib Dems, 241 for the Conservative candidate, 83 and 14 for the Independent candidates.
Commenting on the latest win in Talybont ward, the Brecon and Radnor Express (November 29, 2023) writes:
"The Liberal Democrat vote share increased by over 20 per cent since the 2022 local elections. The result continues a good month for the party in Brecon and Radnorshire.."
The results of the by-election in Crickhowell were 32% and 30% for the two Lib Dem candidates respectively while the Conservatives finished on 13% and 12%, failing to get even half of the votes of the Liberal Democrats and moving backwards from their result in 2022.
The two newly elected Liberal Democrats councillors for Crickhowell are Claire Hall and Chloe Masefield. Claire currently serves as a town councillor and planning expert while Chloe runs a local high-street shop.
Commenting on the latest victory, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate David Chadwick said:
"Yet another amazing victory by the Liberal Democrats in Powys is great news for our campaign to win this seat back from the Conservatives at the next General Election.
"When I've been knocking doors... it is as clear as the Powys night sky that the public is fed up with the Conservatives and their incompetence.
"These recent by-elections show that a vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote to get rid of the Conservatives in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm-Tawe."
David Chadwick, prospective parliamentary candidate for the Liberal Democrats in Brecon, Radnor and Cwm-Tawe raises concern over the health of the rural economy.
"This year we have already seen three bank closures across this constituency. Brecon will have lost two banks by September and Ystradgynlais will have no banks at all by then. Everyone needs a bank. People living in rural communities should not be cut off from accessing banking services. In my opinion, there should be a universal service requirement applicable to big banks".
Many elderly and disabled residents rely on in-person services. The recent wave of closures means that these residents will now have to travel further afield to access them, often using unreliable public transport services. This form of digital exclusion is immoral. The Conservative government in Westminster should be doing more to ensure that these services remain in rural areas like Brecon and Radnor.

A new poll shows David Chadwick is just 3% behind the Conservative incumbent ahead of a general election.
The Liberal Democrats have secured a third by-election win in less than a month tonight as the party secures its hold on Powys County Council ahead of next year’s General Election.
