David Chadwick MP: More Westminster Chaos Is the Last Thing Our Communities Need

Commenting on the resignation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer, David Chadwick, Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe, said:

"Keir Starmer came to power with one of the biggest parliamentary majorities in modern history and a clear mandate to deliver the change people were crying out for.

"Instead, we have seen chaos. Labour started by cutting the Winter Fuel Payment for pensioners, threatening family farms with an extra tax and stood by while thousands of jobs disappeared from the Welsh steel industry.

"I opposed every one of those decisions because they were clearly not in the interests of my constituents.

"Now we face even more uncertainty at Westminster while thousands of people in Mid Wales are still waiting for NHS treatment, families continue to struggle with the cost of living, and communities across Wales feel left behind.

"My concern is that this needless turmoil will slow down progress on issues that matter to people across Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe. I have been leading the campaign to end the unfair cross-border NHS waiting list policy, which sees Powys patients waiting longer simply because they live in Wales, despite often receiving treatment in England.

"I am leading the fight to restore a direct T4 bus connection between Mid Wales and Cardiff after Labour's changes left many rural communities facing longer, more complicated journeys, and for reliable primary care across the Swansea Valley. These vital campaigns cannot be allowed to stall because Westminster is once again consumed by political instability.

"People across Brecon, Radnor and Cwm Tawe do not want more political drama. They want a government that gets on with fixing the NHS, supporting rural communities, tackling the cost of living and delivering the investment Wales deserves.

"Whoever becomes Prime Minister must end the chaos and finally deliver the better deal that people across Wales were promised."
